The very

first tree

and the story behind it...

1st tree.jpg

The story of our very first tree and the fundamental start point of our designs, developed from a Christmas wedding for the founder's first born daughter. This was when the very first idea was born.....

Well no, tell a lie, it wasn’t one of those light bulb moments. It actually  had been a seed of an idea for many years, but never developed.

So...

We had much excited planning for many months before the actual wedding. Now my husband (Jeff, the MD) worked hard all the time as a design engineer for his own company.

Several weeks prior to the wedding date, I noticed him disappearing to his workshop at the bottom of our garden more and more frequently.

I asked him on several occasions, “What are you working on down there?” to which I would get the same sheepish answer, “Nothing really, just pottering.” I would come away none the wiser.

Well this one stressful night, I’d had enough of not knowing and had to find out what he was doing. I thought he’s leaving me to do all the wedding preparations, whilst he hides in his workshop. So I approached the workshop and opened the door.”What the hell are you doing hiding down here?” He nervously told me he was making a wedding present for them both. “But we’ve already got them a present” I told him. "Erm yes I know, but this is an extra little surprise."

I asked inquisitively, “Well… what is it then?” After a bit of a silent pause, he replied "A Christmas tree.“ "A f***ing Christmas tree!!!” I quizzed (Christmas wedding remember). But anyway, I told him that we already have a tree arranged. "And what do you mean, you're making one?"

That’s when he explained. He was making a metal tree-shaped frame on which bottles would be mounted to form the branches and it would all be lite-up with LED light “Just thought it would be a little glitzy.” he said. I asked, “have you told them what you're planning?” "Erm… no“. "Well I think you had better ring them, right now and let them know! They might not want you to bring it to the wedding. Ring before you waste any more time!” So he bought the part finished frame into the house, took some photos of it and sent them to her, then called to explain.

Well, they absolutely loved the idea of it and couldn’t wait to see it finished at the wedding. So that was it, he had the green light to carry on.

He took it to the venue himself, the day before the wedding and set it up. It looked stunning and beautiful.

Now it goes without saying that the wedding was fabulous, but the big shock for the two of us, was the amount of positive comments that we had for the tree, not least from the owner of the venue, who plans weddings. He commented that you cannot buy beautiful things like that. It was all very flattering but we had full time jobs, and all to soon we were back to the grind.

Several years have passed by, but still we receive admiring comments from passers-by. You see, we kept the tree as a souvenir of the occasion. It takes pride of place in our driveway and twinkles every night (no, its not Christmas every day of the year, but it does light a dark corner of our drive and in such a beautiful way) which is what the complements all say.
